FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – The University of Arkansas Libraries are inviting undergraduates to show off their creativity and technical skills in a 3D printing contest during Undergraduate Research Week 2026.
The Libraries’ AR Creation Studios is hosting this event, open to current undergraduate students wanting to submit original 3D designs for printing and judging. While students are responsible for creating their own designs, Makerspace staff will handle file preparation and printing. The cost of materials will be covered by the Libraries.
Submission guidelines say participants can only use the template provided by the Mullins Library Makerspace, and designs must be submitted in STL format. The submitted files will then be printed in PLA only. The finished pieces must have minimum dimensions of 1x1x1 and a max of 3x3x3 inches, along with first and last initials matching the name of the contestant. Judging will be based on creativity, theme, and fairness. Submissions for the contest will be accepted through April 24th.
Any undergraduate students of all majors and experience levels can compete. A workshop was scheduled for April 20th, so participants could receive attentive support.
The contest falls under Undergraduate Research Week, which is a campus celebration of student research, scholarship, and creative activity. People can participate in workshops, panels, and presentations.
The contest will allow students to gain practical experience in design thinking, problem-solving, and digital fabrication skills valuable in academic and professional settings.
Winners of the competition will be highlighted and receive award prizes. For more information, visit the university’s library website.
