FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the first time in over a decade, The Razorback baseball team was swept at home. On a weekend that was supposed to be a celebration of the legendary head coach Norm Debriyn, The Florida Gators showed up ready to play.
The first game of three took place Friday, March 27th and saw Coach Norm Debriyn take the field to be recognized for his incredible career as The Head Coach of The Arkansas Razorback Baseball Team. But the celebratory atmosphere did not last long as Florida jumped out to an early lead and did not look back taking the opening game 9-4. Catcher Karson Bowen led the way for the Gators going 3 for 5 at the plate with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
The second game was played the following day and produced a similar outcome. Florida got the scoring started, but Arkansas was quick to respond making it a 3-2 game in the Hogs favor through the 4th inning. But the lead did not last long when the Gators took the lead in the 5th inning and ran away through the end to finish the game 7-4. Second Baseman Cade Kurland lead the Gators going 1 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
With Florida claiming the series in two games, The Razorbacks motivation going into the third game was to avoid the sweep. While the scoring remained more even during this game, The Razorbacks never claimed a lead and saw a lead for only 1 inning during the entie series. The Gators took the third game, 7-6, and took the series with 3 wins and the first opponent sweep at Buam Walker since 2016. Florida was led by Shortstop Brendan Lawson and Firstbaseman Ethan Surowiec. Lawson went 3 for 5 at the plate with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. Surowiec went 4 for 5 at the plate with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored.
