FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV)- The University of Arkansas is celebrating Disability Awareness Month with a variety of different events.
The theme this year is “Advancing Access and Equity”.
This tradition started in 1945, it was originally a week dedicated to supporting disability diversity in the workplace. However, over time, it has grown into a month-long event.
Events include a Disability Etiquette Training, The Future of Diversity in the Workforce by keynote speaker Charles Barber, a Disability Resource Fair, as well as several other opportunities for enrichment.
Aaron McCullough, director of accommodation and accessibility services and ADA coordinator, says this month is also about highlighting those who put in the work.
“The OEOC-AAS [The Office of Accommodation and Accessibility Services] and CEA are taking the opportunity this month to provide some training to the UA community, and to celebrate those here who are doing the hard work of promoting accessibility, equity and inclusion.”
In celebration, the U of A will also be hosting a Disability Recognition Awards on October 25th, from 11a.m. to 1p.m. Nominations are open until October 10th.
