School Resumes for Some NWA Students
Some Northwest Arkansas students will finally return to school tomorrow after almost a week of cancelled classes. School officials stated that schools will be open tomorrow with a limited bus service due to the winter weather. But some schools will still be closed. Several school districts are trying to figure out when they will make up the missed days.
Arkansas Receives Weather Cleanup Grant
The US Department of Labor announced that it will be giving the state of Arkansas a National Emergency Grant. The grant will help aid Arkansas clean up efforts after last December’s winter storm. Fayetteville Recognized as a Compassionate City
Announced Monday, Fayetteville, Arkansas, has been officially recognized by the International Campaign for Compassionate Cities as one of 26 compassionate cities around the world. Fayetteville is the first city in Arkansas to receive this recognition. The International Campaign for Compassionate Cities is a global campaign inspired to raise awareness of the benefits of compassionate action.

Winter Weather Causes Major Problems
Winter weather causes extreme cold and extreme problems for motorists. Sunday’s winter storm brought snow and sixty-five accident reports over an almost three hour time period in Fayetteville. With the rise in temperature Monday, only seven accidents were reported–no fatalities occurred either day.

Fayetteville Named Top Volunteer Community
For the 5th straight year, Fayetteville has been honored as Arkansas’ top volunteer community. The substantial growth of students at the U of A was a factor in creating more volunteers for the city’s organizations. A tremendous achievement for the city was the 7,868 hours of volunteer work dedicated to the Fayetteville Animal Shelter.
