FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) — The 2026 Amazing Tree of Fayetteville has been selected. The tree chosen is a post oak that resides in Wilson Park and was voted on for its size and location by residents of Fayetteville. It is the 10th tree chosen for the event.
The tree is located near the Wilson Park hub entrance that leads to the various amenities of the area.
It is nearly 62 feet tall and the diameter is 43 inches.
The tree will be commemorated receiving a plaque on April 20th at 4 P.M. To recognize the oak. The public is welcome to the ceremony that will take place at the hub entrance at Wilson Park.
Plaques will include information that explain the characteristics of the tree and will be placed in the city’s tree registry. The registry is a database ran by the Urban Forestry of significant trees in Fayetteville.
The purpose of the event is to emphasize the role that the urban forest plays to the character and ecological health of the city. It also promotes tree preservation and aims to inform the public about the importance of urban forests along with celebrating trees in the Fayetteville community.
Five trees were nominated by the City staff as well as the Urban Forestry Advisory Board. All eligible trees are located in either City Parks or City-owned properties.
This oak will not be the only winner of the award located in Wilson Park. The 2018 Amazing Tree of Fayetteville also resides just southeast of this year’s winner.
Other trees to receive the honor can be found all around the city including places such as Gulley Park, the Fayetteville Public Library and Lake Fayetteville.
Every tree has its own unique qualities that differentiate them from others in the area. The city chooses them based on their character, size, unique shape or rare species.
