FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) — UARK Wellness hosted a campus pop-up event giving students a chance to relax, connect, and take a break from their daily routines.
This week’s wellness hut highlighted the concept of a “third space,” which refers to a place outside of home and school where people can gather, build relationships, and feel a sense of belonging. Organizers say creating spaces like this on campus can help students feel more connected and supported in their day-to-day lives.
Students were invited to hang out in a cozy setup with blankets, chairs, snacks, and even Polaroid photos to capture the moment. Organizers say the goal was to create a welcoming environment where students could unwind and connect with others in a low-pressure space.
The concept of a third space centers on social wellness, which organizers say is especially important for college students managing busy schedules and academic stress.
University of Arkansas student Allie Gilmore says the event gave students an opportunity to just be themselves.
“The third space is just a space where you can be yourself in between being at home and then also being at school,” Gilmore said. “Just focusing on your social wellness as well.”
UARK Wellness continues to host pop-up events throughout the semester, each focusing on different aspects of student well-being, including mental health, physical wellness, and social connection. Organizers hope these events not only provide short-term relief from stress, but also encourage students to prioritize their well-being and seek out spaces where they feel comfortable and supported.
