FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – In an attempt to foster a culture of holistic well-being, UARK wellness has challenged the campus community to the “Commit to Well” challenge. This campus-wide incentive program is set to engage students, faculty and staff in wellness across eight facets. Sarah Werner, wellness coordinator said she cannot wait to see our campus community personalize this experience.

Participants earn points by logging any type of physical activity and completing eight different wellness and movement challenges. Everything you can do leads to a different amount of points. Those who earn 900 points will earn a prize at the end of the challenge.

Those challenges encompass the spectrum of wellness including social, environmental, occupational, spiritual, financial, emotional, intellectual and physical. It serves as a rallying call for the University of Arkansas community to prioritize self-care and personal growth.

Jordan Jeffers with UARK Wellness said, “This is a really easy way to get involved and do something maybe you’ve never done before, and really, to get your friends to do it with you. I think that’s definitely the biggest thing that we would love to see our community do is help each other be well.”

According to the CDC, regular physical activity can help keep your thinking, learning, and judgment skills sharp as you age. It can also reduce your risk of depression, anxiety and it helps you sleep better.

Werner also said she hopes this challenge forms personal habits in some participants, and when April wraps the wellness does not need to end there. Jeffers said the wellness lounge in Pat Walker Health Center is open for any student, faculty or staff member to come hang out. She said there are free snacks and it is a great place to study.

Students can register now to participate in the challenge at fitevent.uark.edu.
