FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) As April kicks off, the University of Arkansas (U of A) is using its platform to shed some light on sexual assault awareness month. As a way to educate and engage the campus community, University Libraries curated a selection of digital materials and physical displays in Mullins Library.
Kelsey Lovewell, Director of Public Relations for Mullins Library said “The Libraries promote relevant resources each April to keep the campus community informed and to make the community aware of the support available to them.”
The collection spans a diverse selection of eBooks and streaming videos delving into sexual assault and its repercussions, including narratives and documentaries. Including resources on sexual assault on college campuses, survivor stories, guides for parents, guides for dealing with trauma and stories on sexual assault in minority communities.
“It is crucial for U of A students, faculty and staff to be aware of what constitutes sexual assault, what resources are available for victims and those accused,” said Lovewell “and what steps can be taken to reduce the risk of sexual assault on campus and beyond.”
Featured is The Beginning and End of Rape: Confronting Sexual Violence in Native America which explains the historical and modern realities faced by Native women.
In streaming videos, there are selections like “The Hunting Ground” which give insight into the prevalence of sexual assault on college campuses.
Resources can be found on the fourth floor of the library. Lovewell also said that the Title XI office also offers definitions, training materials, and ways to report sexual assault.
