FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV)- On Wednesday, March 27th, the University of Arkansas will celebrate its founding as a university over 153 years ago.
The celebration of the university’s founding will take place at the Arkansas Union. Chancellor Robinson and other university leaders will be there from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. This will give the university community a chance to come together, celebrate the birth of the university, and look back at all the achievements the school has made from students, faculty and staff.
Ron Gordon, director of executive communications for the University of Arkansas, discusses the importance of celebrating the anniversary of the university’s founding. “Celebrating its founding anniversary commemorates the institution’s rich heritage and acknowledges its enduring commitment to student success, research excellence, and service to our state and nation.” Gordon said.
The University of Arkansas has been on the hill for 153 years, serving and helping students, professors, and the state of Arkansas. And serving as an example of high education and leadership for the state and the United States.
This community engagement ranges from education to athletic to cultural. The University of Arkansas impacts the state, and the nation, in these areas. From business leaders and workers, to professional athletes and cultural leaders fighting for change, many different types of people have come out of Arkansas and impacted the state in different ways.
“Overall, the University of Arkansas has contributed greatly to the state’s vitality and prosperity,” said Gordon.
Additionally, the University of Arkansas was founded as a “flagship institution.” The reason for this being that the university is the oldest, largest, and most well-known university in the state and a leading institution for universities in the state. The University of Arkansas is all three of these, making it a “flagship institution.”
As the University of Arkansas continues to be the leading institute in the state of Arkansas, it brings in more students each year. Breaking records for the amount of students attending the university, and bringing forth more students to help grow and make the University of Arkansas a better place.
