FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – According to a release, Former Washington County Sheriff’s deputy Stevon Grindstaff was arrested on Mar. 11 by Arkansas State Police. He faces charges of first degree murder and aggravated assault.

This arrest comes after his involvement in a shooting incident that took place on Dec. 3.

Grindstaff attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a pickup truck at an intersection of Blue Springs and Beav-O-Rama Road, but the vehicle failed to stop, leading to a pursuit.

Authorities report that the driver drove through a fence and entered a field before eventually stopping. After the pursuit concluded, Grindstaff exited his vehicle to approach the truck. The driver rapidly accelerated in reverse towards Grindstaff and his vehicle, striking his patrol car.

In a previous statement from the Sheriff’s Office, Grindstaff reportedly “discharged his weapon response to this action,” resulting in the death of Scottie Stacy, 57, of Rogers.

Stacy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the shooting, the Arkansas State Police were called in to investigate, and Grindstaff was placed on administrative leave.

On Mar. 11, Grindstaff was arrested and charged by a special prosecutor with first degree murder and aggravated assault.

Grindstaff’s employment with WCSO was terminated prior to his arrest.
