First-Generation student celebration

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV)- November 6th through the 10th has been declared First-Generation College Student Week. 

The Office of New Student and Family was created this week as a way to celebrate all students who are the first of their parents or guardians to go to a four-year university.

This week will be full of events in collaborations with other offices on campus. 

Yesterday’s event, Cooking Matters: Basics on a Budget, was sponsored by the Center of Community Engagement. The event took place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Arkansas Union. 

Today’s events started at 10 a.m. with a Wellness Workshop at Pat Walker, sponsored by UARK Wellness. There was also a First-Generation Student Drop-In with the Honors College in Gearhart from 12cp.m. to 1 p.m. The last event of the day included a scholarship prep season in the Arkansas Union from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday will be First-Generation College Student Day, and events will be going on throughout the day. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. any student apart of 360 Program or ASAP Program will be able to stop by the 360 advising studio for some food and swag. From 10 a.m, to 1 p.m. There will also be a Resource Fair and National Celebration at the Arkansas Union. Other events include an Entrepreneurship Panel, Dreamscape: A Collective Nap Experience, and a first-generation VAC Panel. 

Thursday’s events include a Hub @ Hotz, a Recess event, and a Study Abroad Workshop. The week will end on Friday with lunch with the Chancellor from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
