Winter Weather Hits the University of Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.—Today students got to walk through the cold and the sleet for the first time this fall.

The freezing rain and sleet fell earlier this morning blanketing campus and making the sidewalks slippery to walk on.

The wintery precipitation today made the University of Arkansas close its doors early today at 4 p.m., as did many local high schools.

Between Sunday and today, the temperature in NWA dropped nearly 50 degrees and will continue to drop until late Monday night getting close to 10 degrees. The weather will remain cold, but it should be just above freezing and sunny, Tuesday to help thaw some of the ice.
