PRAIRIE GROVE, Ark. — A small plane crash left one dead Monday evening, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The office’s Facebook page posted a news release Tuesday afternoon detailing the events of the crash.
“On September 23, 2019 at 8:43 p.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call from a resident reporting he witnessed an airplane crash in the area of Cove Creek South Rd (WC 285),” the release said. “One fatality was confirmed and the Washington County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene. It is believed the pilot was Gabriel Hatton, 17, of McKinney, Texas.”
Local authorities said the pilot was the only person aboard the flight. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to lead an investigation into the crash, according to WCSO.
