First Lady Proposes Changes for Junk Food in Schools
The first lady is taking steps to change students eating habits. Michelle Obama’s proposal of removing junk food advertisements in school’s will undergo a USDA-facilitated comment period which will determine how long schools have to remove unhealthy ads. The proposal is a part of her Let’s Move program that focuses on child obesity and healthy eating.
Greener Homes Being Built in Fayetteville
Habitat for Humanity is showing Fayetteville that homes can be built greener. Habitat for Humanity partnered with U.S. Green Building Council to build the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design home. The certification means that this LEED home is energy efficient and the building process was environmentally responsible.
More Than $2 Million to be Spent on Road Projects
Today, the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission’s policy committee approved spending $2.9 million in federal money to fund five road projects. The committee is primarily focusing on identifying areas where this money could aid in creating a link between the two communities by improving intersections and interchanges.
