FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – The Arkansas Razorbacks men’s basketball team made history this weekend. The Hogs are now Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tournament champions as of March 15, 2026.
The Hogs beat Vanderbilt 86-75 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, Sunday afternoon. This is the hogs first SEC championship win for the program, coached under John Calipari, since the year 2000, under Hall of Fame Head Coach Nolan Richardson. This is also the team’s eighth SEC Championship appearance and first since 2017.
The Hogs beat Vanderbilt earlier this season on Jan. 20, 2026, at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas, 93-68.
Two players stood out during Sunday’s match. Trevon Brazile led the hogs to victory scoring eight points heading into those final minutes. Brazile, along with teammate Darius Acuff Jr., was named to the All-Tournament team. More statistics from the game can be found here.
What does this mean for the men’s basketball team going into this year’s March Madness competition?
The Hogs’ recent title victory boosts their ranking in this year’s NCAA seeding. Quickly after Sunday’s win, the team found out they would be seated No. 4 in the West Region.
The Hogs were labeled as “unpredictable” throughout this year’s season and were predicted to earn a No. 4-5 seed range.
The Hogs will face No. 13 seed Hawaii on March 19, 2026, for the first-round March Madness matchup.
In an article for the Razorbackers website, Ryan Guthrie says, “Arkansas will have a short window to celebrate its conference championship before turning attention toward its first-round opponent. March Madness rarely offers time to dwell on past accomplishments,”
Guthrie goes on to give the Hogs one message, “enjoy the SEC title, reset, and get ready for Hawaii.”
The Razorback men’s basketball team has struggled with away games this season. This year’s March Madness competition will be interesting to see how the Hogs play outside of Bud Walton Arena.
