FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) — The University of Arkansas Associated Student Government has placed free hygiene baskets in 30 restrooms across campus.
This initiative is one of many across campus which offers students access to crucial resources they may not otherwise get.
Rylee Youngblood, the organizer of this project, said “Not only are we helping the students that are just inconvenienced on the way to class, but we’re also going to help people that have to decide if they’re going to have dinner the next day or tampons or pads.”
In addition to feminine hygiene products, the baskets include items like makeup wipes, toothbrushes and deodorant.
Other resources available to students include the Multicultural Center’s career closet, where students from all across campus can receive clothing, makeup, hygiene products, and more.
The MC closet is available Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Students in Walton College have additional wardrobe options.
The Walton Career Closet allows business students to take four individual items a semester, including shirts, ties, blouses and shoes.
Students can also choose to get one suit per academic year instead.
Students can access the closet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1 p.m – 4 p.m., or by appointment over summer and winter breaks.
The Jane B Gearhardt full circle food pantry offers students, faculty, and staff emergency food assistance. Support includes three-day supplies of groceries, up to twice a week.
The pantry is open from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and they also operate several mini pantries across campus.
The Old Main food pantry, located on the first floor of Old Main, also supplies snacks and hygiene items to those in need.
Each of these resources accept community donations, and many rely on them to stay operational.
