FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV)- The University of Arkansas Writing Studio opened in January 2022 as part of the new Student Success Center. Currently, the studio stands as a rising success to help students in their academic and writing abilities.
Lila Meehan, a University of Arkansas student who is currently in her undergrad, has been utilizing this incredible resource since arriving here at the University of Arkansas. As a sophomore who is working to maintain a 4.0 GPA she states “I would encourage all students to utilize the writing studio. They look over your rubric and peer review your paper. They can also help get you started from nothing. I have seen major improvement in my final grades when using the writing center.”
Writing consultants are available to meet with students one on one or in a group setting to help at any stage of the writing process. They offer help on any type of writing including course papers, scholarship essays, personal statements, other application documents, and more. All Writing Studio consultants complete College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Level I Certification during their first year of consulting and are either graduate or undergraduate students looking to help their fellow peers. They are also available to meet online through Zoom, making academic support convenient and accessible for every student.
Whether you prefer to schedule an appointment or stop by for a walk-in session, the Writing Studio offers flexible options to fit your schedule. Even if you simply need a quiet place to focus, write, or study, the space is open to all students, no appointment required, and the best part is that if you hit a writer’s block, a consultant is close by. They also offer student writing groups which are an excellent way to stay accountable during long-term writing projects while building a sense of community. These groups connect students with peers who are working at similar academic levels or on similar types of writing, creating a supportive environment for feedback, motivation, and shared progress.
