FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – Craft For A Cause, a Registered Student Organization at the University of Arkansas, is partnering with Peace at Home Family Shelter this semester to collect essential household items for families escaping domestic violence. The donation drive began Sept. 28 and runs through Nov. 28, with drop-off locations at the HOEC Building and the Arkansas Union.

The project aims to support survivors who often move into safe housing with few belongings. Organizers said the drive gives students and community members an opportunity to provide comfort and stability to families starting over in Northwest Arkansas.

“Every item donated goes directly to survivors of domestic violence who are rebuilding their lives here in Northwest Arkansas,” said Ella McKay, president of Craft For A Cause. “Many leave unsafe situations with very few belongings, so having access to essential household items helps them feel grounded, cared for and supported as they start over.”

The organization is collecting bedding, towels, pillows, bathmats, cleaning supplies, kitchen utensils, pots, pans, baby monitors and snacks for children. McKay said items such as towels, bedding and kitchen supplies are among the most impactful because they make daily life functional and comfortable for survivors transitioning into new homes.

In addition to collecting donations, Craft For A Cause is asking volunteers to create handmade celebration cards for families supported by Peace at Home. The cards, which can include messages in English or Spanish, will be given to individuals as they reach milestones such as moving into a new home, starting a job or completing counseling.

“At Craft For A Cause, we believe creativity builds connection and healing,” McKay said. “When volunteers take time to craft something heartfelt, it reminds survivors that they’re not alone and that their community truly cares.”
