FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – The Razorbacks lost in a shootout to a shorthanded Ole Miss squad Saturday night, 41-35. The Hogs outgained the Rebels by 51 yards in the game, but a critical fumble inside the Ole Miss 30-yard line by wide receiver Jalen Brown in the final two minutes gave the ball back to Ole Miss.
Taylen Green has been the story of the season thus far for the Hogs, setting program records. Green is the first quarterback in Arkansas history to have 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in the same game. Green is one of three quarterbacks in the FBS with multiple 100-yard rushing games, and has the most rushing yards for a quarterback in the nation.
Now, for the Hogs will be a solid team from the American, the 3-0 Memphis Tigers. The Tigers have not played anyone from the power four conferences yet, beating Chattanooga 45 to 10, Georgia State 38 to 16, and Troy 28 to 7. Arkansas will be the Tigers’ toughest test so far and perhaps the entire season.
The Tigers will present a different offense to prepare for than the Rebels did Saturday. Memphis has posted a very respectable 218 yards per game on the ground in their three games, which is good for 27th in the country. On the flip side, their passing attack has left much to be desired, as they are passing for 203 yards per game, which is 84th in the nation.
Coming off an offensive showcase but a defensive disaster, especially in the secondary, the Hogs are entering a “get right” game against a far inferior passing game.
However, the Razorbacks could be showing up to Memphis shorthanded as cornerback Kani Walker was stretchered off the field vs Ole Miss.
“That’s kind of still up in the air, to be honest with you,” said head coach Sam Pittman.
Defensive linemen Quincy Rhodes and David Oke were injured after the Ole Miss game, but fully participated in practice, according to Pittman.
If the Hogs can stop the Tigers’ steady run game, Arkansas should have a clear path to victory this Saturday.
