FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) — The Arkansas Alpha chapter of Pi Beta Phi is teaming up with Sigma Nu to host its 20th Annual 5K Run on Oct. 18 during Parents Weekend, coinciding with the Arkansas vs. Texas A&M football game.

The event will run from 8 to 10 a.m., starting at the Pi Beta Phi gates near Old Main Lawn before winding through Fayetteville’s trails. Organizers said the route gives parents, families and friends the chance to experience the University of Arkansas campus while taking part in one of Fayetteville’s signature traditions.

The Pi Beta Phi 5K has become a cornerstone of Parents Weekend, with proceeds supporting children’s literacy initiatives both locally and nationally. Funds raised help provide classroom libraries, nonprofit support and resources that ensure more children have access to books and educational tools.

“It’s easily my favorite day of the year,” said Pi Phi senior Lauren Romero. “It’s great to get some exercise while knowing you’re working towards something good.”

Event organizers said the run is open to all participants, competitive runners, casual walkers or families looking for an activity together. Each participant will receive a free event T-shirt.

“This is easily one of the biggest events on campus and just seems to grow every year,” said Pi Phi 5K representative Olivia Boykin. “It’s an amazing thing to see.”

Chapter leaders emphasized that the race is more than just a fundraiser. Over the past two decades, the event has been a celebration of philanthropy, community and Razorback spirit.
