FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – The University of Arkansas offers a way for students to stay active, reduce stress, and even sharpen their focus without costing a dime.
University Recreation + Wellness (UREC) offers group fitness classes and multiple gym locations across campus. Access is included for all students through their recreation fee, included in tuition, while faculty and staff can purchase an annual membership for full use of facilities and classes. Additionally, faculty and staff without a membership may attend one complimentary class each Tuesday.
The classes range from cycling and strength training to yoga and dance, offering something for every fitness level and interest. Students and members can reserve spots in advance through the UREC Member Portal or the UREC App, which also provides real-time schedules and the option to build a personalized workout calendar.
Beyond fitness, these classes offer another benefit, connection.
“I have made so many good connections with girls through my classes. Beyond working out, the connections I’ve made through teaching are what matter to me most.” Jocelyn Nordin said, a Pilates instructor for UREC.
Research from Harvard Health shows that regular physical activity not only boosts energy, but also improves concentration and sleep. Because of this, workouts are a tool for both physical health and academic success. For many, group fitness classes are an easy way to prioritize wellness while managing a busy schedule.
With dozens of options available each week, UREC group fitness makes it simple for the community at University of Arkansas to trade stress for strength and isolation for connection, all without leaving campus.
