FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – The wait is over – Razorback football is back in Fayetteville this weekend as Arkansas kicks off the 2025 season with a matchup against Alabama A&M. The game marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs and offers fans a chance to get a look at a new Arkansas roster under head coach Sam Pittman.
While the Razorbacks enter as heavy favorites, there are plenty of storylines worth following as both teams take the field.
Quarterback Taylen Green is the centerpiece of Arkansas’ offense. After throwing for more than 3,000 yards and adding over 600 rushing yards last season, he gives the Hogs a true dual-threat weapon. His decision-making and efficiency will set the tone in week one.
Arkansas was one of the most active SEC teams in the transfer portal this offseason, bringing in more than 30 new players. That group includes wide receivers O’Mega Blake (Charlotte), Ismael Cisse (Stanford), and Kam Shanks (UAB), giving the Razorbacks more depth and explosiveness in the passing game. On the ground, running back Mike Washington Jr. (New Mexico State) adds power behind the offensive line.
On paper, Arkansas holds a clear advantage in depth, size, and athleticism. The Razorbacks are built for the grind of the SEC and should control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. For Alabama A&M, the challenge will be finding ways to generate big plays and limit mistakes against a much deeper roster. The Bulldogs have veteran quarterback Cornelious Brown IV to provide stability.
Saturday’s matchup brings several notable firsts and milestones. It’s the Razorbacks’ first season opener in Fayetteville since 2022, a welcome return for fans eager to fill Razorback stadium. Arkansas has won its last two FCS openers by a combined score of 126-13. For head coach Sam Pittman, now entering his sixth season, the game provides an opportunity to establish early momentum after an up-and-down 2024 campaign. On the opposite sideline, Alabama A&M will debut under new head coach Sam Shade, coming in from Miles College.
Arkansas has the clear edge in this first week’s game, and the expectation is a clean and comfortable Razorback win. Although, fans will be watching for more than the score. Saturday is about setting the tone, and sending a message that this Razorback team plans to be sharper, stronger, and more explosive in 2025.
