Married couple killed at Devil’s Den State Park

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – Two people were killed while hiking at Devil’s Den State Park on Saturday, July 26. 

Thursday July 31 update, here’s what we know. 

In a press release Arkansas State Police (ASP) said they have arrested Andrew James McGann, 28, in connection to the double homicide that occurred on Saturday July 26.  Special Agents worked with ASP to bring McGann into custody.  

“No news can heal the enormous harm done to the Brink family in last weekend’s crime, but this announcement is a comfort and reassurance for our State. I am so proud of the Arkansas State Police, Park Rangers, local law enforcement, and others who have worked nonstop since last weekend to capture this suspect. I ask that Arkansans lift up prayers of thanks for the brave men and women of law enforcement – and offer prayers of condolence to the victims of this horrific crime. Let there be no mistake – we do not tolerate violent crime in Arkansas. If you target innocent people, law enforcement will hunt you down and bring you to justice,” Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a press conference. 

Arkansas State Police revealed the victims have been identified as Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41.

The couple was accompanied by their two young daughters. The girls, ages 7 and 9, were not injured and are now safe with family members. The family recently moved to Prairie Grove from out of state. 

Arkansas State Police (ASP) were notified around 2:30 p.m. about a double homicide at the park located in Washington County. The couple was found dead when police arrived at the scene. 

ASP released a sketch of a man that was seen at Devil’s Den State Park on Saturday July 26. In a press release today Monday July 29, ASP said the suspect “likely sustained an injury while attacking the couple”. 

According to ASP, the suspect is believed to be an unknown white male with a medium build. The suspect was believed to be wearing a long sleeve shirt, dark pants, a dark ball cap and sunglasses. The suspect had a black backpack and was wearing fingerless gloves. 

Officials believe the suspects vehicle to be a Mazda with a license plate covered by electrical or duck tape. 

Shea Lewis, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism included in the press release, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at Devil’s Den State Park. Our hearts are with the victims’ loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. The safety of our visitors and staff is our highest priority, and we are working closely with Arkansas State Police and various law enforcement officials as the investigation continues.”

ASP stating in a press release that they are increasing law enforcement presence in state parks. 

The investigation is still ongoing. APS is encouraging anyone who might have any information or images of the suspect to send it to ASP Troop L at (479) 751-6663. 

Devil’s Den State park couldn’t comment on the incident as it is an ongoing investigation.
