FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — On April 14, 2025, the University of Arkansas reopened the newly renovated Fine Arts Library. The library had been closed since 2022.
As a part of the opening celebration, library staff hosted an opening ceremony with cookies. Students could ask library staff questions about the renovations and the library itself.
Phillip J. Jones, director of the Fine Arts Library, said the new space is much bigger, nicer and more inviting. He said, “The Fine Arts Library went from approximately 3,700 to 5,300 square feet. The carpet is new, as is most of the furniture. Some pieces of furniture, which date from the 1950s, were restored—and look great.” Jones also added, “The windows admit a lot of light and the space is bright.”
Jones said the library would work well as a study place for all students even though its collection of books and materials is mostly for the School of Art and the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design.
As mentioned before, the library also features an expansive and growing collection of books and materials. Jones said they are important for students. “[T]he collections are not only physical, but also increasingly virtual. The electronic books and periodicals of University Libraries are growing at a rapid clip and increasingly important.”
The library will be open every weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. this semester. The library says additional hours could be added next semester.
