Commit to well initiative hopes to promote dimensions of wellness

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas’ department of University Recreation and Wellness is hosting a “commit to well” initiative from April 14 thought April 22, 2025. Sarah Werner said the initiative is supposed to bring awareness to what the department says are the eight dimensions of wellness: Social, Financial, Environmental, Emotional, Occupational, Intellectual, Spiritual, Physical. Werner said, “[w]hether [] through movement, wellness related events or wellness challenges. I hope students are able to see how broad wellness can be and that you don’t have to rearrange your whole life to dedicate time to wellness.”

This is not the first time the university has hosted the initiative, Werner said, “The event has been a success in the past and it is going well so far this year.”

As a part of the initiative, the Recreation and Wellness department is working with the Sexual and Relationship Violence Center and University Housing to promote the “Together We Move. Werner said, “Participants can log time spent on movement and physical activity at fitevent.uark.edu and receive an equal number of volunteer hours.” It is supposed to promote solidarity with survivors of sexual violence.

According to the department’s website, wellness overall can “help improve academic and personal success.” It also leads to healthier behaviors and choices.

The department also hopes to inform people about opportunities, resources and support. They say practice of healthy lifestyles and maximizes personal and academic potential. They hope to promote an overall culture that improves the campus’ quality of life and community.
