SEC Food Fight donation drive competition

By: Emma Manhire

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) — The Jane B. Gearhart Food Circle Pantry launched its yearly SEC Food Fight donation drive. This friendly competition between all SEC schools is a great way to support local communities.

The SEC Food Fight is one of the largest drives that Caroline Wilson, the Full Circle Food Drives Coordinator, gets to be apart of. The pantry continues to operate through the summer. One of Wilson’s goals for this drive is to gather enough supplies and food to keep the pantry full through the upcoming summer.

I’d love to be able to leave a full pantry behind before graduating! I’d also love to see more RSOs get involved that haven’t hosted a donation drive before. We’ve already had some groups sign up that we haven’t worked with before, which is very exciting,” said Wilson.

There are several ways for students to get involved and participate in this food drive.

  • Sign up to hold your own donation drive. Donations like canned goods, toiletries, and hygiene  products are some good recommendations.
  • Checkout this Amazon Wishlist of recommendations for their most needed donations. This makes donating very easy, since the purchase can be sent directly to the Jane B. Gearhart Full Circle Food Pantry office.
  • Sometimes donating physical products can be challenging. Monetary donations can be accepted through this website. Make sure to select the “Jane B. Gearhart Full Circle Food Pantry” as the fund designation.

Popular donations range from: canned meat, canned beans, canned fruit and vegetables, peanut butter, pasta, laundry detergent pods, and feminine hygiene products. Items made of glass, expired products, or opened items will not be accepted.

“Anyone is able to get involved in this drive! All donations we receive through April 17 will count towards the competition. Student involvement is what keeps the pantry running! We are a student run food pantry with 11 student board members and over 80 weekly student volunteers, and a large amount of the food and hygiene items we distribute are donated from groups on campus. This school year we’ve had over 40 organizations involved in donating to Full Circle,” said Wilson.

Students are encouraged to participate, donate, and help Arkansas win the competition while supporting the community. For more information, contact Caroline Wilson at fcdrives@uark.edu.
