FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) — This week was the beginning of King of Pink, a philanthropy event held by the Zeta Tau Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas.
The event is held to help raise money for breast cancer awareness.
King of Pink is ran by Zeta’s Vice President of Philanthropy and Service Catherine Warren.
Warren said that this event and Zeta’s philanthropy goals as a whole was a key reason that she rushed the sorority.
“When I was going through recruitment, I felt really called to Zeta’s philanthropy,” Warren said, “I have always been really into encouraging and uplifting other women.”
Breast cancer affects about one in every eight women, and Warren said that she has seen the affect breast cancer has personally.
“My great grandmother and my grandmother both had breast cancer,” Warren said, “I just think it is really important to uplift this cause.”
The King of Pink event consists of a competition between fraternities on campus throughout different events.
The events consist of a banner competition, percentage day, and a performance with interview questions related to breast cancer.
The fraternity that wins the competition will be decided by a panel of judges and be crowned as the ‘Kings of Pink.’
Warren said that the chapter that is represented as the Kings of Pink will play a helpful role in Zeta’s philanthropy.
“They are going to help us throughout the year with all of our philanthropic efforts and volunteering,” Warren said.
With this philanthropy event being the biggest one Zeta holds all year, Warren said the main goal is to raise money for the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation.
Warren said the foundation helps fund research grants for breast cancer and raises awareness to those on campus.
The final event of King of Pink will be held on Friday, March 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Greek Theatre.
