FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) — Arkansas gymnastics is flipping the script this season, breaking records and expectations as the team competes at Bud Walton Arena for all five home meets — a first in program history.

The Gymbacks, who finished seventh at nationals last season, are embracing the opportunity to perform in front of larger crowds and bring even more energy to Fayetteville. Junior gymnast Cally Swaney says competing in Bud Walton is a dream come true.

“I think the feeling walking into Bud Walton Arena is just gratitude, that we get the experience to compete in that arena,” Swaney said.

The move has already made an impact. Arkansas started the season strong, including a statement win over defending national champion Louisiana State University (LSU) on Friday. The team’s success is drawing record-breaking crowds, with attendance reaching more than 10,000 fans.

Sydney Lemmerhirt, a former Gymback and now an announcer, has witnessed the program’s growth firsthand.

“We didn’t use to sell out even Barnhill. We were lucky to get a sellout at Barnhill, and now for all of the meets to be in Bud Walton and getting close to sellouts there has been really awesome to see,” Lemmerhirt said.

With momentum building, the Gymbacks are eager to continue making history. The Gymbacks will return to Bud Walton Arena on Feb. 7 to take on Florida.
