Summer camps actively recruiting students outside of Union

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – Multiple summer camps were outside the Arkansas Union on Tuesday recruiting students for summer jobs.

Camp Ozark and Sky Ranch were talking to students, conducting interviews, and giving information on how students could land a job with them for the summer.

Summer camps can be a great opportunity for students to gain work experience, no matter what a student is studying. Blake Mullin, a recruiter for Camp Ozark, said “We have internships like video, social media, culinary arts, art education, sports management, outdoor education, and a lot more.”

Camp Ozark also makes up a large part of their workforce with college students, with Mullin saying they hire over 800 college students, “and a lot came from the University of Arkansas”.

Sky Ranch is taking a similar approach, and gave an insight into what kind of students they are looking for.

Reilly Kelecius, a program manager at Sky Ranch, said “We are out here trying to find the best college students. Those are students that are super fun, super mature, and care a lot about kids.”

The application process differs between camps, with Camp Ozark taking a more non traditional approach.

Mullin said, “The first part of our application process is a non committal interview, after that we send you to the applications questions. You can just walk up to our table and do an interview.”

Sky Ranch is directing students to their website in order to find their college application, but Kelecius says talking to them at their table could go a long way toward landing the job.

“Most people arent really willing to approach a campus table, so the best way for people to come up is by coming up with one of your friends, maybe someone who has a relationship with us already” said Kelecius.

Both tables were also handing out free merchandise to students as a part of their recruiting efforts.

Camp Ozark lists their wages on their website, and students can earn over $4,000 for working the entire summer, as well as covering room and board for their staff for the entire summer.

Sky Ranch has multiple locations across Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado, while Camp Ozark is located in Arkansas.

Camp Ozark has options for workers to stay for a set amount of sessions, while Sky Ranch offers half and full summer terms.
