FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – From Monday, October 28 to Friday, November 8, two lanes on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (MLK) and Razorback Road will be closed.
On the night of October 19, there was a water main break at the intersection of MLK and Razorback. This left a heavy flow of water and a huge hole in the road, which caused delays and traffic.
The City of Fayetteville’s Field Supervisor, Ty Turner said, “They had to tear out our drainage pipes, so we are having to fix it all completely and put new ones back in.”
The City of Fayetteville reported that due to this water main break, there will be lane closures on these roads to repair the damages. The specific lanes will be the outside lanes of MLK and the inside lanes of Razorback heading away from campus. “If traffic keeps going like this expect 15 minutes” to be added to student’s travel to campus.” said Turner.
Construction hours will be from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., which is during school hours, so students should consider this in their travel time. These hours can fluctuate and take on extended hours during the week.
A University of Arkansas (U of A) sophomore, Brooke Davis uses both these roads “a couple of times a week when she comes home from classes.” Davis said, “I have started driving around campus and taking a longer drive to avoid construction traffic because I do not want to get caught in it.”
Delays in driving due to traffic will be expected, but signs and flaggers will be in place to help direct traffic.
Turner said, “We have signs out, right lane closed ahead, and everything is lit up, so that everyone knows what is going on” to ensure the safety of students and construction workers.
Delays to construction due to inclement weather or unexpected conditions can occur, but if it stays on time the work will be done on November 8.
