FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV)- University Recreation (UREC) offers personal training for students and members of the campus gyms.
The format is one-hour private and personalized sessions to assist clients in their health and wellness goals.
McKenna Barnhill is a nationally certified personal trainer for UREC.
Barnhill starts with each of her clients in the same way.
“When I first meet a client we usually go over any health conditions, goals, why they wanted a personal trainer, and what they want our sessions to look like,” said Barnhill.
This lays the groundwork for her to cater a workout plan that aligns with what the client wants.
Sessions begin with the starter pack that includes the initial assessment.
“We use an in-body machine to scan their weight, body fat percent, muscle mass,” during the initial assessment Barnhill said, “We then make a workout plan for each session and take them through the workout and correct form.”
The starter pack is $56 for a student or $64 if you are a UREC member.
Barnhill acknowledges the benefits personal training has.
“Clients are more inclined to workout and stay active if they have someone making plans, making sure they are performing the moves correctly, and just having someone there to walk them through it can be a big plus,” said Barnhill.
The benefits of working out with a personal trainer include accountability, safety, better mental health, and a sense of community.
“Personal trainers are there to create a connection with the people they train as well, and also as a support system while still being professional,” Barnhill said.
Barnhill said her role and desire for her clients is to help them reach their goals efficiently and safely and emphasized the importance of personal training.
“We get to have one on one training with our clients,” Barnhill said, “there is also a lot of accountability when it comes to working out and a personal trainer can help you stay consistent.”
To register for personal training, you must complete the interest form, the liability form, and pay for the session at the time of enrollment.
You can also opt for just the initial assessment for a student rate of $10 or a UREC member rate of $15.
UREC offers free body composition screenings on the first Monday of every month in the Union Gym.
