FAYETTEVILLE, Ark (UATV)- The University of Arkansas’ National Pan-Hellenic Council held its annual stroll competition Thursday night in the Verizon Ballroom.

The event displayed black sorority and fraternity culture. This year’s competition served as a fundraiser, the proceeds going to support NPHC organizations. Since they are underrepresented.

“They are going to show the University of Arkansas what it’s about with strength and unity when they all come together and be one,” the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Greek Life, Parice Bowser said.

The competition began at 7:15pm where seven of the Divine Nine, historically African American Greek organizations, participated in the Olympic themed event. Each group showcasing dance routines and choreography. Each organization brought their unique style to the stage.

The groups performed twice. The first performance being inspired by Olympic sports and the second performance showcasing each groups stroll.

Each team incorporated elements such as gymnastics, track and field, and basketball. Their routines were evaluated by a panel of judges based on choreography, creativity, and execution.

The fundraising stroll competition served as an effort to support and shine light on NPHC organizations. Bowser said the funds raised go toward things like scholarships and community service.

Chrissy Powel said this competition served as a pre-show for their larger step show in October.

“The turnout was great,” Powell said. “A lot of people came out and I appreciate that.”
