Reported structure fire at Humphreys Hall turns out to be a false alarm

By: Joshua Wisel

FAYETTEVILLE, ARK (UATV)- Around 11:02 a.m. Labor Day morning the Fayetteville Fire Department was dispatched to a “structure fire” call, at Humphreys Hall on campus of the University of Arkansas.

Students were temporarily evacuated while crews investigated the scene which reportedly took place in the laundry room on the basement floor.

The “structure fire” reported was a false alarm, as one of the machines started smoking in the basement triggering the alarms according to one of the on duty Resident Assistance. Upon viewing the laundry room there was no visible damage from either smoke or any fire.

Some parents were concerned from the initial scene as fire crews were investigating the call, they can hopefully rest easy now knowing that there was no significant fire or damage from this incident. Residents who use the laundry room on the basement floor should be aware that some of the drier units will be unavailable until they are repaired.
