LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (UATV) — Arkansas football stomped UA-Pine Bluff, 70-0, in the season opener Thursday, August 29th.
This was only the second time in series history the two teams have met for an in-state matchup. The first coming from October of 2021 where the Razorbacks defeated the Golden Lions 45-3. This time around Arkansas was able to maintain the lead, moving to 2-0 against UAPB.
The Hogs’ first drive of the game ended in the endzone after 66 yards across 8 plays. Running back Ja’Quinden Jackson got things moving on the scoreboard with an 8-yard rush, his first yards as an Arkansas Razorback. The Utah transfer’s largest run of the night came later in the first quarter with a 46 yard touchdown to cap off a three play, 60 yard drive for Arkansas. Jackson finished the night with two touchdowns and 101 rushing yards.
Fresh out of a Boise State jersey, Arkansas’ new quarterback Taylen Green tallied 229 passing yards and two passing touchdowns. The red-shirt junior completed 16 of 23 passes for 69.6%. On six attempts, Green secured 88 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Texas native’s biggest run of the night came from a 36 yard trip to the house, putting the Razorbacks up 49-0 less than a minute before halftime.
True freshman Braylen Russell and back-up quarterback Malachi Singleton locked in their first collegiate scores in back-to-back touchdowns. Sophomore Tyrell Reed tied the bow on the night with a 10 play, 90 yard drive for the tenth Hog touchdown of the night.
The Razorbacks look ahead to next weekend as they head down into Cowboy territory. For the first time in 44 years, Arkansas football will take the turf against Oklahoma State University. The Hogs lead the all-time series with double the amount of wins in the Cowboy column (30-15-1). Kickoff is set for 11 a.m., Saturday, September 7th.
