FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – The Pakistani Students Association and the Muslim Students Association hosted their annual Pakistani Iftar, an event marking the break of their fast. The event aimed to provide students with insight into Ramadan while offering a communal meal to break the fast.
During the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Muslims worldwide observe Ramadan as a period of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. Those practicing the fast gather with family or community members to break their fast.
Rohan Tanveer, Vice President of the Pakistani Students Association, describes Ramadan as an act of devotion and worship, fostering empathy for global struggles.
“It’s also an act that enables us to reflect more on how to have greater empathy for the struggles of what’s going on around the world.”
One of Tanveer’s friends started the Pakistani Student Association because the Pakistani community is growing at the University, he said.
Tanveer said it’s important to him for those who aren’t Muslim to understand why they celebrate Ramadan.
“It’s important that people get their opinions and ideas on Islam from authentic Muslim sources, not what they might hear on the media.”
The Pakistani Students Association extended a warm welcome to all students, regardless of their religious affiliation, to join the Iftar celebration. Traditional Pakistani cuisine will be served during the event.
