FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV)- With Halloween around the corner, an on-campus student-run organization, SAKE is selling their annual Spooky Boxes.
Through the Walton College of Business, students can join Students Acquiring Knowledge through Enterprise (SAKE) and learn what it means to run a business from the ground up. Sarah Ward, Commercialization Team Manager, said she enjoys combining business and her favorite holiday, Halloween.
“I just love getting creative with it and building the box as if I’m going to be buying it,” said Ward. “It’s just fun stuff to kind of lighten the mood before the holiday and just make you feel good and make kids smile whenever you know they’re having a hard midterm period.”
Ward said the boxes will have some novelty items in them such as LED light glasses, pens, pencils, notepads, tissues, and snacks like candy chips, popcorn ramen.
The course spans over a year and is split between two semesters. SAKE Advisor, Ali Sadeghi-Jourabchi, said this program helps students gain experience in customer service, accounting operations, marketing, system integration, system automations, reporting, data analyses, and problem solving.
Beyond learning the ropes of a business, Sadeghi-Jourabchi said it introduces students to the world of post-grad.
“From what I’m being told, many of the organizations that come on campus actually ask students [if] they have been in SAKE or not,” said Sadeghi-Jourabchi. “They get better opportunities for hiring but they understand the vocabulary of business. As they land work, the majority of them know exactly how it works. It really benefits them.”
