FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – University of Arkansas Greek Life is raising awareness about the dangers of hazing by hosting events across campus.
“I just think it’s really important that the campus does this to show that these hands in each sorority don’t haze and that everyone is aware of what hazing is and what it can lead to,” said Judicial Chair of Zeta Tau Alpha, Olivia Peterson. “There are some really horrible things that go along with hazing so if everyone’s aware of those then maybe they will be more inclined not to do it.”
‘These hands don’t haze’ is a social media campaign utilized by Greek life as a visual reminder to condemn hazing. In this campaign, Greek life organizations post pictures of their sorority hand sign with “these hands don’t haze” written on them.
“It’s just accountability for our actions, making sure that there’s never hazing going on and that everyone knows what hazing is so you know what not to do,” said Peterson.
National hazing prevention week, or NHPW, is Sept. 25-29.
