50 Years of the Union

FAYETTEVILLE Ark. (UATV)- 50 years ago the Union was the newest building on campus, now half a century later the Razorback community is celebrating five decades on campus.

In 1973 the current union was built to replace the old student union. The facility was expanded in 2000 to fit growing needs.

An anniversary celebration will take place. There will be a variety of booths at the anniversary celebration one of those booths is the cardinal nights booth.

Assistant Director of new student and family programs, Jonas Zabriskie explains how cardinal nights is a student led program that is housed in the union. Zabriskie said “being in the union allows us to be in the middle of everything and the students are always close to the people that want to help them.”

Many people have many fond memories and feelings towards the Union, Amber Roth, associate director for new student programs, said “the union is a special location because it serves as the campus hub for students, staff, and faculty. Offering various services and amenities such as food, event spaces, and study areas.”

The Union anniversary celebration will take place on Wednesday September 20th from eleven to one.
