FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV)- Early this morning members of the community paid their respects to the first responders who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks by climbing the stairs of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
Hosted by the Army and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, the Memorial Stair Climb is an annual event. Participants climbed 110 flights of stairs, representing the number of floors in the World Trade Center towers, starting at 5:30 a.m. this morning.
Groups and clubs across campus participated as well as others in the community, including first responders.
Participants varied in how they completed the climb, but several wore backpacks, or heavy equipment and uniforms to more closely resemble the experience of the first responders of 9/11.
One student says how she found the climb difficult, and has now gained a new respect for all first responders who had to do the climb fully geared.
