FAYETTEVILLE, Ark (UATV)- CAPS on campus wants to share an incredible opportunity for all students who identify with the LGBTQ community.

CAPS counseling and psychological services here at the University of Arkansas wants to shed more light on an existing group on campus.

The group, that has existed for two years, is focused on supporting University students who feel undervalued or disregarded because of their gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

“It is a space for LGBTQ+ students to be their authentic selves, find and provide support, share resources and build community,” said Gonzalo Camp Mental Health Clinician and Outreach Coordinator for CAPS.

Group meetings are composed of many opportunities for discussion amongst members. Things such as introductions, icebreakers, and group discussions allow members to find similarities in each other’s experiences.

“The content of the meetings is flexible and constantly changing based on the needs of the participants. Conversations, debates, sharing community news and updates, creating community engagement opportunities,” said Gonzalo Camp.
Along with meetings, there is a GroupMe for all that have attended a meeting as another way for members to stay connected and engaged between meetings.
Meetings are every Wednesday at the Cordia Harrington Center for Excellence from 4-5 p.m.
