FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – Members of the University of Arkansas’ National Pan-Hellenic Council are hosting a presentation for local high school students.
The “Greek Stroll” will take place at Fayetteville High School as part of the school’s final Black History Month event. The presentation will focus on highlighting the history of African-American fraternities and Sororities.
Members of NPHC will share a brief history of their respective organizations and demonstrate a stroll. The program is designed to raise awareness surrounding the Divine 9 and the purpose of the fraternities and organizations that form to create it.
“Hopefully students learning more about NPHCs service based organizations coupled with seeing us perform will get them excited to go to college & give back to their communities,” said Amori Anthony, the president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
The Divine 9 is a name used to refer to the nine Black Greek Letter Organizations that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Those organizations include: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho, Sorority, Inc. and Iota Phi Theta, Fraternity, Inc.
“Oftentimes we don’t realize what these students are going through at the moment. Having these positive interactions with us can really uplift their spirits and give them some encouragement.”
The presentation will take place Friday, March 3rd from 9:00 to 11:00 in the morning. The event is free to all Fayetteville High School students, faculty and staff.
