FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design had a record-breaking 70 employers at its annual career fair on Tuesday, February 14th. Architecture students had the opportunity to meet with future employers and build interview experience.
This experience was added on with new technology, like 3-D printing, being implemented into the program. This technology can be helpful for different types of majors in the architecture program like design, interior and landscape.
The architecture program has made students become involved with working with each other to gain the experience of being in a professional firm. Communication has become bigger than ever within the field.
Fourth-year student Clayton Roberson said these new opportunities are helping students like him reach their goals. New technology being added to the program has revolutionized the way people are working in the field.
“The school seems like it’s doing a really good job in pushing us towards the newest new stuff to get into,” Roberson said. “So that when we get a job we can immediately go out and be top of the line in whatever firm we need to be in.”
During their time as architecture students, people are progressively working on their portfolio to build off from their work to show to future employers.
Associate Dean Dr. Ethel Goodstein said that students show their work to potential employers during the career fair was a big opportunity to gain experience when it comes to being in a job interview.
“Get a resume together, get a portfolio together, or whatever state of development it might be in and make their way to the career fair,” Goodstein said. “There are so many things to be gained from meeting people in the field. Students have an opportunity to hone their interview skills in a relatively friendly environment.”
Goodstein also said the 2023 graduating class is going to have a near 100% employment rate after graduation. This could be with either professional firms or internships.
