FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – The University of Arkansas blocks access to the popular social media app, TikTok, on campus networks and on university issued devices.
Mark Rushing, Associate Vice Chancellor of University Relations, sent an email release today to students, faculty and staff that said the University of Arkansas “believes these actions are in the best interest of the information security for all institutions in the UA System.”
In the email, Rushing called for the immediate removal of TikTok from any university-issued technology, and that all TikTok accounts affiliated with the university or one of its colleges should make those accounts inactive. This should be done no later than Wednesday, Jan. 25.
The decision to ban TikTok came in accordance with the executive order Gov. Sanders recently released that called for the ban of TikTok on any state network or state-issued device.
The University of Arkansas is not the first university to ban TikTok from servers: Auburn University, University of Oklahoma and Texas A&M, the largest university in the U.S., are among the list.
