By: Andrew Altman

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV)-  National Voter Registration Day is today, Tuesday, September 20th.

The day comes on the fourth Tuesday of September and celebrates civic democracy. The State of Arkansas requires the following to be completed before being eligible to register to vote:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Be an Arkansas resident.
  • Be 18 or turn 18 before the next election.
  • Not be a convicted felon.

Once deemed eligible, individuals can fill out an application that can be found at any of these sites:

  • Your local county clerk.
  • DMV office.
  • Public library.
  • Military Recruitment office.

Applicants will know if they have been accepted when they are sent a personalized voter registration card. This can take several weeks in the mail to be delivered. It is important to note that everyone must have their application submitted no later than 30 days before Election Day.

Over 1.5 million Arkansans are registered to vote. This is a little over 50% of the States’ population. Many organzations are pushing to get more people to not only register to vote, but vote when the time comes. Of the 1.5 million voters in Arkansas, only 546,000 voted in the 2020 election. This is a number that many would like to see increase when election time rolls around in November.
