Invasive plant removal at Mount Sequoyah, volunteers needed

By: Max Vanderglas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – Volunteers are wanted for two invasive plant removal events this summer at Mount Sequoyah.

Fayetteville’s Parks and Recreation division has teamed up with the Beaver Watershed Alliance to get invasive vegetation removed from the Mount Sequoyah area.

Mount Sequoyah is accessible from the intersection of Happy Hollow Road and Paddock Road or from the intersection of Williams Drive and Skyline Drive. It is a 97-acre wooded park that features trails through the forest.

The alliance provides volunteers with gloves, tools, snacks and drinks for those who participate. Volunteers are recommended to wear long-sleeve shirts, pants and closed-toe shoes.

Volunteers will go through a quick training session teaching them how to identify invasive plants and properly remove them from the area.

The events will take place on Friday, April 29, and the next Friday, May 6, from 3-5 p.m.

To RSVP for the event, send an email to info@beaverwatershedalliance.org or call or text 479-750-8007.
