FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – Fayetteville police arrested two men following a shooting that left one injured early Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred in the Walton Arts Center parking lot on West Dickson Street. Officers responded to a report of the shooting at approximately 2:14 a.m. where they found a male victim inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his chest. The victim was taken to the hospital where his wounds were treated. He was released the same day.

Montavius Knighten, 24, and Edwin Swan, 28, were identified by witnesses as the two men who shot the victim.

The victim told police he was at the Z330 bar earlier with friends when a physical fight between his friend and another male broke out. The victim and his friends then went back to his vehicle where Knighten and Swan approached them.

The victim told officers that the demeanor of the suspect, who he identified as the male his friend got in a fight with, led him to believe there was an intent to shoot him. In response, the victim pulled out his own firearm and pulled the trigger, but it malfunctioned and did not fire.

Police said Knighten was arrested for Battery in the First Degree and Terroristic Act for shooting the victim while he was inside the vehicle. Swan was arrested for aggravated assault for approaching the victim with a firearm displayed in a way that caused him to believe he was going to be shot. Swan was also arrested for Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance after police found half of an Oxycodone pill on him.
