A familiar face opens Fayetteville tennis courts

By: Kye Kocher

Fayetteville, Ark. (UATV) – The new University Recreation Tennis Center opened yesterday. The university celebrated opening the courts by bringing in a familiar face.

Venus Williams, a seven time grand slam champion, and all-time great tennis player will cut the ribbon to open the new courts.

The courts officially opened today to all students and community members who have memberships. Due to the weather, I am not so sure that people will be utilizing them on the first day open, but they will be a great asset to the campus and community in the warmer weather to come.

If you are not a student at the University of Arkansas, you must purchase a membership to use the tennis courts. Semester and annual fees may be purchased through the UREC website

The 12 new tennis courts will be located off of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. on 1357 W. Indian Trail.

There will also be a service center at the courts, which will also serve as a rental center for racquets, balls and other equipment.
