FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – Mount Sequoyah’s 100th year anniversary takes place in 2023. During the celebration, Sequoyah will celebrate the people who lived and worked there, and much more.
Sequoyah was founded in 1922 as a summer retreat, and a faith-based training facility.
During the celebration, interviews and videos will be included to tell the story of the area. Mount Sequoya President Emily Gentry said, “I think this place is like no place I have ever been. I think it is uniquely Fayetteville.”
In the 100 years, the 97-acre park has seen a lot of changes. From originally being a part of the Methodist church to now hosting different events and camps. Gentry said, “[they] Have started to focus more as a community center.”
Now at Sequoyah, artists are on campus, who provide a variety of different classes. Recently, the park added a gym for their visitors. With the intention of getting more people through the doors.
The celebration will be dedicated to the history of the area. People associated with the event will tell the story of Sequoyah and feature interviews of the important people through the years.
Gentry said, “There is just something about it you can just feel the history of the people that have come before you.”
