A portion of Porter Road in Fayetteville is blocked off throughout this week due to construction on water main crossings in the area.
According to the City of Fayetteville website, there will be flaggers present and drivers should be aware of construction workers. The website states that the lane closures last from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day through Feb. 25.
The closure has affected some residents in the area more than others, but it has served as a minor inconvenience at the very least.
“The road closure hasn’t really messed with my route to school, but what it has done is made the road a bit unsafe,” said Malachi Jones, a UofA junior and a Fayetteville resident.
There are multiple lane closures located right by the Interstate-49 bridge and another in front of Calvary Baptist Church. The detours provided are sending more traffic than usual through residential areas.
“People that don’t realize the road is closed will turn around and speed down Porter towards Wedington,” Jones said. “It makes getting out of my apartment complex far more precarious in the morning.”
The City of Fayetteville website suggests that anyone with issues reach out to Scott Klempel at (417) 337-1871.
