FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV)- University of Arkansas students posted on social media that they discovered an Apple AirTag attached to their vehicle. AirTag’s can be used to track items like keys and wallets. This means that vehicles can be tracked wherever they go if an AirTag is placed on a vehicle.
According to Apple, the AirTag is designed to prevent unwanted tracking. If an AirTag that belongs to someone else finds its way into your stuff, your iPhone will notice it’s traveling with you and send you an alert.
U-A-P-D says the idea of intentionally tracking or stalking someone violates the law.
“If a person finds one of those, it would be great if they could report that so we can find out who is doing it and put a stop to it,” said Captain Gary Crain from University Police.
Crain said they have seen posts on Facebook and U-A-P-D has been contacted regarding questions about AirTags and being tracked, but they have no official reports.
If you find a AirTag that does not belong to you, contact U-A-P-D or police to report it to stop students from potential tracking.
